The Opening Ceremony of the Planning Meeting will be graced by Honourable (Mrs.) Leela Devi DOOKUN-LUCHOOMUN, Minister of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research on Wednesday 08 April 2015 at 09 00 hours at the Main Meeting Room, Voilà Hotel, Bagatelle.
This new ICQN ECD is in conformity with ADEA's strategic policy of setting up ICQNs to facilitate networking of countries around shared challenges and themes. ICQNs thus serve as catalysts in the process of learning and capitalizing on diversely-sourced information on successful and innovative educational policies, strategies and experiences in Africa.
So far, much of the coordination in the field of ECD has been undertaken by the ADEA Working Group on Early Childhood Development (WGECD) under the leadership of UNESCO, which, since 2007, has been very active in supporting and promoting integrated approaches to the development of the young child.
The objectives of the meeting are:
1. To articulate the vision and mandate of the ICQN and facilitate a smooth migration of the ECD Working Group to the new ICQN-ECD platform;
2. To define the role and articulation between the decision-making, coordinating and executing organs of the ICQN-ECD;
3. To prepare the guidelines for the drafting of a Strategic Plan and Action Plan for the ICQN for the period 2015-2017; and
4. To facilitate the technical handing over from UNESCO to Mauritius.
